The purpose of the USPS Presort Accuracy Validation and Evaluation (PAVE) program is to determine the accuracy of presort software in sorting address files and documenting sort results. Mail Manager 2010 and Mail Manager 2010 LE are Gold PAVE certified in 26 of 30 possible Presort categories, 35 of 39 possible supported options, and 16 of 19 possible Postage Statements. Mail Manager 2010 can also presort Standard Mail ECR Irregular Parcels as well as Package Services Bound Printed Matter and Parcel Post. Package Services sortation is a premium option requiring an additional fee.

Mail Manager 2010 LE presorts First-Class Mail and Standard mail. Periodical presorting is available by purchasing the Periodicals option. Package Services mail can only be presorted using Mail Manager 2010 and the Bound Printed / Parcel Post option. For more information, contact BCC at (800) 337-0442.

Class of Mail

First

Sorts pieces as First-Class Mail. This class consists of stamped cards, postcards, letters, and sealed parcels weighing 13 ounces or less. Personal correspondence, including bills and statements of account, must be mailed in this class. The minimum for a First-Class mailing is 500 pieces or 50 pounds.

Periodicals
(Separate option for Mail Manager 2010 LE)

Sorts pieces as Periodicals mail. This class consists of newspapers, magazines, and other publications issued regularly (at least four times per year). All periodical publications must be authorized by the USPS.

Standard Mail

Sorts pieces as Standard Mail (formerly Standard Mail (A)). This class consists of letters, flats and parcels weighing less than 16 ounces. Mailpieces include printed matter, pamphlets, catalogs, newsletters, direct mail, and merchandise. Mail can only be presorted as Standard if it is not required to be mailed as First-Class Mail or Periodicals. The minimum for a Standard mailing is 200 pieces or 50 pounds.

Bound Printed Matter
(With Parcel Post, option available with Mail Manager 2010 only)

Optional feature, formerly Standard Mail (B). Sorts pieces as Package Services Bound Printed Matter. This class consists of flats and parcels weighing 1 to 70 pounds. Mailpieces generally consist of books and catalogs. The minimum for a Package Services Bound Printed Matter mailing is 300 pieces.

Note: Bound Printed, Flat, Barcoded presorts automatically use the Co-Packaging option and all pieces follow co-packaging rules.

Parcel Post

(With Bound Printed Matter, option available with Mail Manager 2010 only)

Optional feature, formerly Standard Mail (B). Sorts pieces as Package Services Parcel Post. This class consists of flats and parcels weighing 1 to 70 pounds. Mailpieces generally consist of books and catalogs. The minimum for a Package Services Parcel Post mailing is 50 pieces.

Media Mail

(With Library Mail, option available with Mail Manager 2010 only)

Optional feature. Sorts pieces as Package Services Media Mail. This class consists of flats and parcels weighing 1 to 15 pounds. Mailpieces generally consist of books and catalogs. The minimum for a Package Service Media Mail mailing is 300 pieces.

Library Mail

(With Media Mail, option available with Mail Manager 2010 only)

Optional feature. Sorts pieces as Package Services Library Mail. This class consists of flats and parcels weighing 1 to 15 pounds. Mailpieces generally consist of books and catalogs. The minimum for a Package Service Media Mail mailing is 300 pieces.

Mail Stream

Automation

Produces an automation-compatible mailing for pieces that contain a ZIP + 4 Code and valid delivery point and sorts the remainder of the mailing according to the setting specified for the Sort Non-ZIP + 4 option.

Barcoded (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Sorts mail as Barcoded. Mail must have Pkg Svc Bound Printed, Flat/ Machinable, or Pkg Svc Parcel Post, Machinable characteristics.

Machinable

Sorts card or letter sized mail as Machinable (Standard or First-Class Mail only).

Nonmachinable

Sorts mail as nonmachinable. This type of mail typically does not have a barcode.

Other Mail Stream Options

Enhanced Carrier Route (Separate option for Mail Manager 2010 LE)

Uses Carrier Route, Line-of-Travel, and Delivery Point data to produce Enhanced Carrier Route (ECR) sorts.

Use WS (Optional for Mail Manager 2010 LE; included with Mail Manager 2010)

Uses Walk Sequence data to produce an ECR sort.

Auto Carrier Route

For First-Class and Standard auto letters and cards.

Use 3-Digit CR Trays

Creates 3-Digit CR trays for letter pieces.

Use 5-Digit Scheme

Creates optional 5-DG Scheme trays for Auto letter and card pieces.

Use L007 Package Scheme

This option refers to Postal Bulletin 22092. M940 sorts are required to prepare a 5-Digit scheme package. This applies to Periodical, Standard and Bound Printed Matter mailings of AFSM 100 flat-sized pieces.

Make Firm Packages (Option available with Mail Manager 2010 only)

(Optional feature) Creates Firm Packages for Periodical presorts if multiple records contain the same ZIP Code, Carrier Route, LOT and Delivery Point.

Carrier Route (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Considers the Carrier Route field when presorting. This is neither an ECR nor an AutoCR presort, but rather a sortation unique to Pkg Svc Bound Printed Matter presorts.

News
(Optional for Mail Manager 2010 LE; included with Mail Manager 2010)

Places “News” on the second line of the sack/tray labels of Periodicals mail.

Nonprofit

Allows for different postal rates for nonprofit mailings.

Piece Dimensions

Piece Weight / Sample Size

Calculates the piece weight to determine the number of sacks or trays to make.

Piece Thickness / Sample Size

Calculates the piece thickness to determine the number of sacks or trays to make.

Use Length and Height

Displays fields for entry of piece length and height measurements (in inches). These entries determine if piece dimensions meet the regulations for the selected class of mail and piece type.

Container Type & Size Options

Minimum

Displays the minimum number of pieces that will fit in each type of container. This value is calculated from piece weight and thickness.

Maximum

Displays the maximum number of pieces that will fit in each type of container. This value is calculated from piece weight and thickness.

Coated Cover Stock

Adjusts maximum package size to 3 inches or 20 pounds, whichever occurs first. This option affects packages of coated cover stock placed in sacks.

Co-Packaging (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Allows for combining Automation and Presorted flat pieces into the same package for First-Class Mail, Periodical, and Standard Mail classes.

Container Type

Displays the types of containers that can be used for the mailing. These options change based on the Piece Type specified.

Origin ZIP Information

Origin ZIP Code

Indicates the 5-digit ZIP Code of the Post Office where the mail will be deposited. Entry of a full 5-digit ZIP Code is required to calculate all In-County and Zone information for Periodical sorts, and to correctly identify the Entry ZIP on the Qualification Report for all presorts. When a valid 5-digit ZIP Code is entered, the associated city is displayed.

Delivered to SCF / BMC / ADC
(Periodicals and Standard Mail)

Allows you to indicate that the Origin ZIP Code is an SCF or BMC. If either of these selections are made, the Qualification Report and Postage Statement will automatically reflect the appropriate destination discounts.

Destinations

Select (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Allows you to choose from all available BMCs, SCFs, and DDUs.

Show Summary (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Calculates and displays qualifying SCF and BMC destination sites, along with the number of qualifying pieces.

Add Delivery Units

(Periodicals only) Allows you to select ZIP Code Delivery Units for Periodicals.

Use Delivery Units

(Periodicals only) Loads delivery units selected for the previous presort.

Include Ride-Along Piece

(Periodicals only) This option allows you to attach or enclose a piece with each periodical copy and pay a flat rate of $0.124 extra. When piece dimensions are entered, they must include the ride-along portion as well as the main mailpiece. All packages and containers will be made as appropriate.

Sort Non-ZIP+4 as

Omit

Excludes pieces that do not have a 9-digit ZIP Code from a mailing.

Machinable

Sorts pieces that do not have a 9-digit ZIP Code as machinable mail.

Nonmachinable

Sorts pieces that do not have a 9-digit ZIP Code as nonmachinable mail.

Nonauto

Sorts pieces that do not have a barcode and can not go through the automated process.

Combine with Auto

This option is for flat-sized First Class Mail, Periodicals and Standard Mail. It allows packages of automation rate and packages of nonmachinable rate pieces to be combined in the same sack.

Pack & Container Order Options

Low to High

Outputs pieces in packages from low ZIP Code to high ZIP Code.

High to Low

Outputs pieces in packages from high ZIP Code to low ZIP Code.

Residuals Last

Outputs low-level (MADC, ADC, etc.) containers at the end of each mailstream.

Residuals First

Outputs low-level (MADC, ADC, etc.) containers at the beginning of each mailstream.

Other Options

Advanced (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Allows you to select options for containers, pallets, carrier routes, and other preferences.

Save

Stores the parameters selected on the for later use.

Save As

Saves the current settings under a new name.

Save As Default

Saves the current presort settings selected as the default.

Remove Defaults

Returns the presort defaults to the original default selections.

Load

Allows you to automatically enter saved presort parameters. You will be prompted to select a file name.

Load last used

Automatically enters the last settings used to perform a presort, regardless of whether or not the settings were saved.

Use Batch Expression (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Allows you to create batch expressions.

Expression Builder (Mail Manager 2010 only)

Allows you to create a batch expression with calculated expressions.

Permit

Allows you to add or modify permit information.
