Package Services

There are four categories of Package Services Mail:

Media Mail (formerly Special Standard Mail).

Parcel Post and Bound Printed Matter are offered as one option, Media Mail and Library Mail are available as a separate option, while the Package Services Suite includes all four categories. Rates for Package Services pieces are based on weight, zone and presort level. Mail Manager 2010 only supports sorts where all pieces are of identical weight and size.

Bound Printed Matter

Bound Printed Matter (BPM) is typically catalogs, books, and other printed material that weighs between 1 and 15 pounds. The BPM rate categories are:

Single-Piece Rate. The single-piece rate applies to BPM not mailed at the Presorted or Carrier Route Rates.
Presorted Rate. The presorted rate applies to BPM prepared in a mailing of at least 300 pieces, prepared and presorted in sacks or pallets according to DMM standards.

Carrier Route Rate. The carrier route rate applies to BPM prepared in a mailing of at least 300 pieces presorted to carrier routes, prepared and presorted as specified in the DMM.

Containers are created for 5-Digit, 3-Digit, ADC and Mixed ADC levels. All pieces in each container are separated by zone. The mail can be placed in sacks or on pallets. All required documentation and facsimiles for Postal Form PS 3605-P (Meter Postage) and PS 3605-R (Permit Imprint) are produced by Mail Manager 2010.

Parcel Post

Parcel Post is Package Services Mail weighing 16 or more ounces that is not mailed as Bound Printed Matter, Library Mail or Media Mail. There are five Parcel Post rate categories:

Intra-BMC
Inter-BMC (machinable/nonmachinable)
DBMC (Destination BMC)
DSCF (Destination SCF)
DDU (Destination Delivery Unit)

Media / Library Mail

Media / Library Mail preparation standards are useful for educational/research material distributors such as libraries, schools, non-profit organizations, and museums.

Media Mail and Library Mail require a 300-piece minimum to qualify for presorted rates, and cannot exceed 70 pounds per package. (There is no minimum for single-piece rates.)
