Virtually all mailing software programs that allows you to claim postal discounts are certified by the United
States Postal Service. The two main certification categories are CASS and PAVE.
CASS
Coding Accuracy Support System
CASS verifies that a software's ZIP + 4® matching meets the strict
USPS standards. The ZIP + 4 Code is at the
center of automation postage discounts, and is the foundation of efficient mail processing, handling and delivery.
A wrongly assigned ZIP + 4 Code can cause a mailpiece to be misrouted or even undeliverable.
BCC has been involved with the CASS process since its inception, and Mail Manager 2010's ZIP + 4 matching
routines are licensed directly from the USPS: results obtained by using Mail Manager 2010 are identical to those
generated by the Postal Service™ itself.
Mail Manager 2010's CASS solution goes well beyond simple accuracy, to add features that tackle real-world problems.
Besides normal address-standard-ization capabilities (correcting spelling errors and applying standard abbrevia-tions),
Mail Manager 2010 searches for address data in up to three different fields at once: when a valid address is found,
that corrected address can be moved to a consistent field in your file. The software can even
encode up to three
different addresses (e.g, for shipping, billing and mailing) within a single record.

Standardize three address lines, in up to three blocks per record.
In addition to verifying ZIP + 4 Codes, Mail Manager 2010 can enhance data files with important demographic data
contained in USPS files: congressional district codes, county codes or county names, and more.
As part of the ZIP + 4 assignment process, or separately, Mail Manager 2010 can populate address records with
latitude and longitude information accurate to the ZIP + 4 level (usually, a city block). Built-in functions
allow you to perform radius selects — restricting a mailing to addresses within a specific distance from a
given location, to name only one possible application.
Other ZIP + 4 coding enhancements available for Mail Manager 2010 include optional USPS Delivery Point Validation
and Residential Delivery Indicator functionality.
PAVE
Presort Accuracy Validation and Evaluation
PAVE should be the starting point in your software search, but all PAVE certifications are not created equal. Be sure
the software you choose is certified for the mail categories you plan to handle — either now or in the future.
Mail Manager 2010 is currently PAVE-certified across 26 different preparation methods for the three primary classes of
mail: First Class, Periodical and Standard. For details click here.
