When is Drop-Shipping Right for Me?
Destination Entry drop-shipping typically generates the greatest ROI for mailings meeting the following conditions:
- Low individual mailpiece weights (0.5 to 1.5 oz)
- Total mailpiece quantities in the thousands or tens of thousands
- In-home delivery dates are critical to the mailing's success
Let's illustrate the savings potential by comparing two fictitious
mailings, both weighing 100 pounds total and headed to the same USPS facility.
The first mailing has 100 pieces, each weighing one pound. The other mailing
contains 1,600 mailpieces at one ounce each.
Both jobs cost the same to ship. However, the
first job only realizes Destination Entry savings on 100 pieces of mail; the
second realizes Destination Entry savings on 1,600 pieces, for a far greater
net return.
Destination Entry drop-shipping may not generate significant ROI on mailings with:
- Higher individual piece weights (2.5 oz and up)
- Lower total quantities (fewer than 1,000 pieces)
- Long distances between origin and destination points
Even so, Destination Entry drop-shipping can be invaluable for
mailings whose end-point delivery dates are critical, regardless of size or
distance.
